Instrumentals

Here is an older collection of instrumental songs from about 07/08. While I was living in Montreal I had the idea of starting a guitar orchestra and these were the early sketches of the kind of music I wanted such a group to play.

There are some really great moments to be heard here, but on the whole most of these recordings are either highly experimental or wildly sparse and uninspired as most of my early experience writing music was with making loops, and it seems I made quite the habit of repeat-repeat-repeating myself.

I did attempt to expand a few of these songs, although I think the only one I succeeded with was "The Moon", which became "Genius & Morning Light" from "A Month Of Sundays, Forever".

Any which way, I hope you enjoy this little look back.

1. Frustration
2. One More Love Song
3. The Moon
4. Cut Up
5. The Bird - Boy
6. Ralph Marlin Goes Home
7. Bug
8. Not Coming Back
9. Vent
10. The Grind
11. Bride
12. Tundra
13. Alaska
14. Pizzicato

The songs on it are a mix of new originals, a couple older ones I wanted to redo, and three covers. It's been a real long time since I've made one of these little collections, and I've certainly missed it. The track list is as follows :

I'll Be The Devil Tonight

The Way You Make Me Feel (Michael Jackson)

War Song

The Life Of Your Love

Here For You (Renée Forrester)

Down In The Sway

If I Were The Moon...

Love Will Be

The Softest Boy

Bad Romance (Lady Gaga)

Turned Around - Thanks to Kerry O'Donovan for recording this song.

Hope you enjoy.

Share!

Fun fact ! During my very brief (though not brief enough) stint of living in Montreal with my two highly talented friends Tanya & Jon, we had a band ! Tanya and I both played guitar and wrote the songs, each of us bringing our own solo stuff to the trio which then got sort of expanded. Jon was bass master and back up vocals, and yes, he made sweet, fretless love to that bass.

What did we call ourselves, you ask?

"Share!"

Jon came up with the name, and we were hoping that were we to "make it" in some capacity the OTHER musician named "Cher" would maybe sue us ! You just can't buy press like that !

Neither ended up happening, but what did happen was we found us a drummer on craigslist (a wonderful lady goes by the name Charlotte Cornfield who has since gone on to be very successful with her own songs !) we played a few shows, drank a few beers, had some laughs, and like so many before us, dis-banded.

Since coming across a recording of one of our early rehearsals, I've been thinking a lot about those days...

Tanya's song are really something else. If you haven't had the pleasure, I recommend you hop on over to her MySpace and have it now. In hind sight I wish we had only played her songs and none of mine. Her's were beautiful and mine were jokey - which is something I've come to abhor, not only in my own songs, but others' as well. But luckily, like some strange act in a sordid sexual history, I can now look back and proudly say "I don't do that anymore..."

Well I could go on and on, but I think I'll save it for Group. If you are interested to hear what Share! was all about, I've posted the basement recording of that early rehearsal.

(Judge only as harshly as I have judged you all these years...)

Unreleased LP

Two years ago, just as I was putting the finishing touches on what was supposed to be my sixth album, my laptop died. I lost everything. Luckily, I had made a few copies of said album, and as well had loaded it on to my iPod. I'd considered releasing it, but not long after my computer crashed I responded to an ad on Craigslist that would later lead to the studio recording you can find RIGHT HERE.

Any way, there are a few good tunes to be found here - some of my personal favourites, actually. It also includes a couple cover songs and early versions of As It Is, My Body Breaks and Secret Fire, all three of which can be heard on the Teak Wood Gallows EP.

1. My Body Breaks
2. As It Is
